Ground Engineering — Koh Samui
Walls that stand. Slopes that stay.
Strata designs, sources, and installs gabion stone walls, geocell slope-stabilization, and sub-surface drainage systems for Koh Samui's villas, resorts, and hillside plots — engineered to certified standards, built by hand on site.
Our Systems
Three systems, one team
Strata covers three sides of ground engineering — structural stone walls, slope-stabilizing geocell, and sub-surface drainage — sourced and installed by the same crew.
Gabion Wall
Stone-filled wire cages for walls, planters, and facades.

Gabion Wall
A gabion wall is a welded steel cage — 6mm galvanized frame wire, 2mm mesh — packed by hand with quarried stone, 150–300mm per piece. No mortar and no curing time: the weight of the stone and the tension of the wire carry the structure. Water drains straight through the gaps, the surface weathers naturally with the seasons, and there's nothing for tropical humidity to crack.
Frame, mesh, and stone are the only parts — no proprietary fixings, no adhesives. Anything that fails can be re-laced or re-packed on site without demolition.
Applications
Boundary & Privacy Walls
Perimeter walls that hold the line without a rendered surface to crack or repaint.
Garden Retaining Walls
Terracing sloped plots on hillside lots, with drainage built into the structure itself.
Planter Surrounds & Tree Wells
Raised beds around mature palms and olive trees, sized to the trunk on site.
Facade Cladding
Slim gabion panels as an accent finish on entrances, columns, and feature walls.
Courtyard & Landscape Features
Low seat walls, planting edges, and feature accents built into a garden or courtyard.
How It's Built
Site Visit & Design
Measure the line, agree stone size and mesh pattern.
Quote & Sourcing
Materials ordered from TISI- and MIT-certified Thai mills.
Footing & Frame
Concrete footing poured, RB6 frame assembled on site.
Stone Fill & Lacing
Cages packed by hand, laced shut with galvanized wire.
Handover & Warranty
Final inspection, cleanup, and workmanship warranty.
Product 02 — HDPE Geocell
Enviro Grid
Enviro Grid is a three-dimensional HDPE honeycomb that confines soil, slows surface runoff, and holds slopes in place. Welded cells are stretched flat over the slope, anchored straight into the ground, packed with soil or gravel, and grassed over — a lighter, faster alternative to a full retaining structure on embankments and cut slopes.
Applications
Steep Slopes
Confines fill and cuts erosion on embankments and cut slopes.
Riverbank Protection
Cells packed with soil or gravel slow the water and hold the bank.
Landscape Stabilization
Grassed mounds, garden slopes, and planted embankments.
Ground Reinforcement
A confinement layer under pavement or fill to spread the load.
Before & After
Installation
Prepare Subgrade
Compact the existing soil to the required level.
Geotextile
Laid where the design or site calls for it.
Anchor & Stretch
One side pinned, panel stretched to cover the area.
Pin the Far Side
Anchor Pin or J-Pin at the far edge and interior points.
Fill & Compact
Cells filled slightly above the rim, then compacted.
Top Up
Re-fill and re-compact if material settles below the rim.
| Slope Condition | Pin Spacing | Typical Qty. |
|---|---|---|
| Flat land | 1.00 m, both sides | 12 pins/panel |
| Slope 1–30° | 0.50 m, both sides | 40 pins/panel |
| Slope 31–45° | 0.35 m, both sides | 84 pins/panel |
Anchor bar: galvanized round bar RB12-14, 70–100cm, with J-Pin cap connector. Slopes beyond 45° need project-specific engineering review.
Product 03 — Sub-surface Drainage
Drain Grid
Drain Grid is a rigid interlocking drainage cell moulded from recycled polypropylene. Laid flat beneath soil, pavers, or turf, it captures and channels water away at high volume while staying light enough to carry by hand — protecting the waterproofing membrane below and keeping root zones aerated instead of waterlogged.
Applications
Roof Gardens
A thin drainage layer under intensive green roofs and landscape decks.
Planter Boxes
Keeps root zones aerated instead of sitting in trapped water.
Sport Turf
Fast drainage under synthetic turf and activity areas.
Paved Areas
Sits beneath pavers on walkways and open, light-traffic areas.
Water Features
Overflow edges and pond surrounds where drainage has to keep up.
Retaining Walls
Basement walls and underground structures needing a thin drainage layer.
Installation
Waterproofing
Membrane or coating applied per manufacturer instructions.
Slope
Screed to a minimum 1:200 gradient for drainage.
Lay & Interlock
Panels laid and interlocked module to module.
Cut to Fit
Shaped with a hand saw to suit the area.
Seal Edges
Geotextile wrapped around edges to keep soil out.
Cap & Smooth
Geotextile over the top, cut edges smoothed.
Finish Layer
Soil, pavers, or turf placed above; hand-compact only.
